A recent report from UN Women reveals that the most dangerous place for women is their own homes. In 2023, approximately 85,000 women and girls were intentionally killed by men, with 60 percent of these crimes committed by someone known to the victim.
“The new femicide report highlights the urgent need for robust criminal justice systems that hold perpetrators accountable while also providing adequate support for survivors, including access to safe and transparent reporting mechanisms,” stated Ghada Waly, Executive Director of UNODC.
